The Scottish Government
Since devolution in 1999, the Scottish Government has had the power to make its own laws.
Many Scottish Laws are the same as the corresponding law in England and Wales. This is partly because the Scottish Government inherited the current UK laws when power was devolved, and partly because many new laws are introduced as a result of European Directives which apply to Scotland in exactly the same way that they do to England and Wales.
There was already a set of guides to the legislation and regulations that affect small businesses, but those guides reflected the position in England and Wales. We worked with the Scottish Government to localise those guides for a Scottish audience.
This involved doing research to determine where there was a difference between the legislation and regulations that applied to businesses in Scotland and those that applied to businesses in England and Wales, and then rewriting the guides where necessary to reflect those differences.
